Phinally!

I keep saying to myself that we were part of something great today. Something that 1000,s of people have waited nearly 30 years for. Something that may be a once in a life time experience. I am not a sports person at all. But I do love Philly. And one of the things that I love about it is how passionate the people are, whether it be about sports, politics, or bettering the city. This is a fabulous city!

After the Phillies won, Chris rushed out to Cottman and Frankford, where thousands of people poured out into the streets within seconds of the win. Even in the midst of the drunkenness, there were only 76 arrests. Not too bad considering. So there were some cars turned over, some bottles thrown through windows, and at cops...you could focus on those few incidences...or you could focus on the folks that were high fiving, hugging, dancing together, and revealing more of themselves than should be done in public. Philly is what it is. It's people are who they are.
On the train, on the way to the parade today, there were a bunch of folks downing the beer at 9am. I thought, "Good Lord, that is gross." But then I thought, "only in Philly." It's true. It is what makes us unique and I love living in a city that stands on it's own.

We walked for MILES today, and stood for HOURS in a crowd just to see a few ball players and scream. And then we tried to get on the subway to come home and quickly realized that there was no way to even get to the entrance of it. So we walked miles to find a subway stop that we could get in. But we made it home, and decided that we would be happy next time just watching it on tv. I am glad we did it. I love the excitement. But I also love my space.
